Those Mecca girls sure are busy! Now they are hosting a Tribal Pura Workshop with grand dame of American Tribal Style, Carolina Nerricio and the very talented Megha of Devyani Dance Center. This workshop will teach, specifically, the Fat Chance Format of ATS. This will be a great workshop for breaking down the core movements and polishing your tribal technique. Be sure to bring your zills!

Wow! September was a really busy month and we have been on a much-needed break. But now we have the fever – dance fever that is. Lubaaba is having a special Holiday performance at Synchronicity Gallery (58 Adams Street) on Friday, December 2, 2005, with special guests The Veils of Vincennes and Donna Carlton. This performance is open to the public. Tickets are currently on sale and are $10.00 per person, $5.00 with a student id. Contact Leah or Michelle (information on the Contact Page) for further information. Doors open to the public at 8:00pm. Note: This show will follow our Holiday Hafla and Student Recital. Ok. Maybe this will not deal with dance, specifically. But what a great opportunity to get a load of information on the culture and history of the land that gave birth to the dance we love! This year fourteen faculty from the College of Liberal Arts at USI will focus on the Middle East, from 2600 BCE to the present. The Ram in the Thicket, made of gold, lapis and shell, is one of many stunningly beautiful art objects circa 2600 BCE from UR, the legendary birthplace of Abraham. This interdisciplinary, day long colloquium will examine inherited shared cultural motifs from the “Cradle of Civilization” --their origins and manifestations from the time of the Ram in the Thicket to the present. We are really excited to be hosting our first workshop! Donna Carlton will be teaching a 3 hour workshop consisting of a warm-up section, a technique session, and culminating in a Folkloric Baladi choreography. For those adventurous attendees, bring your zils! All this for only $15.00, what a bargain. The workshop begins at 1:00pm and will end around 4:00.
